Get ready—Cadillac is joining Formula 1. The Cadillac Formula 1 Team, backed by TWG Motorsports and General Motors, has received final approval to compete in the FIA Formula One World Championship starting in March 2026. This milestone marks a significant moment for the expansion of F1, as the grid prepares to welcome an 11th team to the world’s premier motorsport series.

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team represents a distinctly American entry into the sport, blending TWG Motorsports’ cutting-edge technology and deep motorsports expertise with GM’s performance DNA, engineering excellence, and motorsports success. Together, they are laying the foundation for a competitive, world-class team.

“For the past year, we have worked hand in hand with GM to build a strong foundation for an extraordinary Formula 1 entry,” said Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports. “Now, with final approval secured, we’re accelerating our efforts—expanding facilities, refining cutting-edge technologies, and assembling top-tier talent.”

The team will be led by Graeme Lowdon as Team Principal, a veteran motorsports executive with extensive Formula 1 experience. Russ O’Blenes has been appointed CEO of TWG GM Performance Power Units LLC, a new entity that will drive Cadillac toward becoming a full works team, developing both chassis and power units for F1.

“This announcement is the next step in getting on the grid and moves us closer to becoming a full-works team,” said Lowdon. “Through the long and thorough application process, we never lost pace in our planning or belief in our mission. We can’t wait to go racing and give fans a new team to cheer for.”

Meanwhile, GM’s power unit development continues, with an experienced engineering team working toward running their first V6 engine in the near future.

Since announcing its bid to join F1 in January 2023, TWG Motorsports has assembled a team of over 300 specialists, focusing on aerodynamics, chassis development, software, and vehicle dynamics simulation. Development work is progressing rapidly, with wind tunnel testing, parts production, and performance validation well underway. The team operates from multiple locations, including Indianapolis, Charlotte, Warren (Michigan), and Silverstone (UK).

With preparations in full swing and a competitive strategy taking shape, Cadillac’s entry into Formula 1 signals an exciting new chapter—not just for the team, but for the sport as a whole. As 2026 approaches, anticipation builds for Cadillac’s debut on the world’s biggest motorsport stage.
